General Questions

The Rotterdam City Card is Rotterdam's official digital discount card that gives you access to over 50 attractions, museums, tours, restaurants and more with at least 25% discount. You can choose between a 1, 2 or 3-day card, with or without access to public transport

With the Rotterdam City Card, you can visit over 50 Rotterdam experiences with a minimum discount of 25%. If you have a City Card including public transport, metro, tram, and bus services operated by the local transport company RET are included. You can also travel to the beach of Hoek van Holland or the historic town of Schiedam by metro.
* The travel card is not valid on NS trains, water taxis, or the Waterbus
* Check out the ‘Deals’ page for all included experiences you can enjoy

You can buy three types of Rotterdam City Cards with public transportation:
- 1-day card: €15
- 2-day card: €22,50
- 3-day card: €27,50

The Rotterdam City Card is valid per calendar day, not for 24, 48, or 72 hours. This means it is valid from the moment you activate it until the end of public transport service that day. A 2- or 3-day card is valid on consecutive calendar days, from activation until the end of public transport on the last day.

Activation & Validity

Download the Rotterdam City Card app on your phone via the Apple App Store or Google Play. You can also use the download link in your confirmation mail.

Open the app and transfer your card by using the link in your confirmation mail or by entering your code. Before using public transport or visiting your first experience, you need to activate your card by selecting the ‘Activate’ option and entering your name and email address.

Important: We strongly recommend waiting until you're in Rotterdam and ready to use the card. Once activated, the validity period starts immediately and cannot be paused or reversed.

We strongly recommend activating the City Card only when you are in Rotterdam or the day that you arrive in Rotterdam. Once activated, the validity period starts immediately and cannot be undone or refunded.

For most locations, advance reservations aren’t necessary, and availability is usually sufficient.

After payment, you have six months to activate your card.

Using your City Card

To check in and out, scan the green Travel Card QR code.

Metro: Hold the QR code on above the card reader at the gates. Gates with QR code readers can be recognized by the glass lightbox and red barcode stickers. If there are no gates, scan the QR code on the check-in poles instead.

Tram and bus: Place your phone on the QR code logo of the blue validator, with the screen facing up and showing the green Travel Card QR code.

* Please note: the Rotterdam City Card cannot yet be used at P+R locations to get free parking when continuing your journey by public transport.

There are two ways to claim your discount, as shown in the ‘Deals’ section of the app. This may vary per location:

Online: Use the discount code from the app. The Rotterdam City Card app will link you to our partner’s webshop. Purchase your discounted ticket here. Your ticket will be sent to you by our partner.

On location: Show the QR code of the yellow Discount Card at the entrance; the discount will be applied when scanned

* Always bring your valid City Card on the day of your visit.

Issues & Solutions

Check your spam mailbox.

Unfortunately, that is not possible.

Make sure you are using the correct QR code; the green travel card is for public transport; the yellow discount card is for obtaining discounts.

Only the metro gates with a glass lightbox are suitable for QR code scanning.

Trouble checking in/out on the bus or tram? No problem, just show a valid and activated City Card with public transport for 1, 2 or 3 days to travel unlimitedly

* Avoid checking in and out too frequently in a row, at the same gate, as this may block the card

The app can be used offline after downloading. However, you will need internet access to book tickets on the various location websites.
